yep.. the definition of insanity is expecting new results from the same behaviors. everybody knows this yet somehow it doesnt apply to dieting.

You make a lot of good points about Precious. I haven't seen the movie, but did read the book and didn't really think too much of the size of the other characters. I guess in real life the size difference between Mo'Nique and Gabby and everyone else isn't as starkly different as the size difference between those two ladies and the rest of Hollywood.

As for Jennifer Weiner, I read Good in Bed and kind of hated how the large character became thin when in crisis she started walking all of the time. I haven't read any of her other books, nor do I think I want to.

LOL I literally JUST finished your essay in the Fat Studies Reader! This is troubling since I've decided to try and read more lit w/ BBW heroines.

That last bit about Weiner's new novel sounds strange to me. I saw her once on the cover of that magazine they sold at lane bryant for a while and she was a 28 I think. I know different folks are different sizes even if they all weigh the same, but it's weird to me that she writes about someone I am guessing is smaller than she is, unless she lost a bunch of weight the last few years. I have many problems with her books more generally, because they are so full of fat hate. I get the idea of exposing one's demons, but after good in bed, which I also found disturbing in a number of places, I've never been able to make it through another. It's just not worth all the hate.

Ah, I just did a google images search and saw that she is smaller than she once was. That explains a lot.

The movie Precious probably would have been a comedy if all of the characters were obese.

I personally too would love to see a BBW heroine running at full speed to save the day.
