Aiyeee! It's Blog Day!

I originally was scheduled to be on the Morning show with Mike and Juliet but it ended up with Rachel from The F-Word and Mo from Big Fat Deal.  I got to be in the audience.  They took on a doctor and someone who I won't gave a name but let's call her Mer.  Both of them were fabulous and when Mer tried to talk over Rachel, Rachel talked right over her.  Overall a great segment that I wish was longer.

Now why the blog talk on this show?  Well on Tuesday the NY Times did a story on fat acceptance blogs (including this one).  Then ABC did a follow up story.

The media seems surprised that fat people have blogs.  We are supposed to be lazy, aren't we?  It just shows the power of the net.  Unlike mainstream media, we can have a voice here.

The Good

The Bad

Report: U.K. anti-obesity charity a front This probably isn't the first and probably won't be the last time the diet industry would be involved in "obesity hysteria". 

The Ugly
Woman in Australia turned away from giving birth at a Hospital because she was too fat.  She weighs 100 kilos which is about 220 which is 15 lbs lighter than I am.  Pregnant fat women have problems  not just Down Under but in the US where they are pushed for C-sections and induced solely for being fat.

Sorry to say, 2008 is already starting with stories of fat hatred. 

Obesity is coming for you! It is destroying America! It will leave the toilet seat up, put it's feet up on the coffee table, cause a major rift in time and space!  Everyone agrees! This stupid film says so! The worst part of this film besides the continuous pandering of obesity epidemic hysteria is that the filmmakers did the film not because they wanted too because the investors asked them to do it.

Paul Campos dips into politics and right wing radio commenting on Michael Savage who said that fat people should be in "camps" and Barack Obama saying that we would save Medicaid a trillion dollars if only we thin like in 1980.  While I really don't care what Savage says as he's a self-righteous windbag, Obama's comments annoyed me.  Not only because I liked him but because he could be our next president or VP and I don't like the idea of people in charge pulling "facts" out of thin air.  It reminds me too much of the current administration.

The YMCA has put out an all points bulletin on obesity.  Obesity is destroying America, but now the YMCA will stop it!  As always I am for fitness and better access to it, but am against fascist-like attitude of you must lose weight and get fit or else!

2008

Welcome back.  I hope that everyone had a great holiday with good friends, family and food (without guilt).

It being a New Year, here are some tips when thinking about resolutions...

1. Results not typical.  There is a reason why diets say this because there is a high failure rate with little long term success.

2. Weight Watchers is a diet.  Don't let their silly ad campaign tell you otherwise.  Any plan that requires you to reduce the amount of calories you need to live is a diet.

3. Subway is fast food just like the rest of them.

4. Diet ads are deceptive.  The FTC figured about 55% had lies in them.

5. The Diet industry wants YOUR money.  They don't give a crap about you.

Also a note about my website.  I can't design HTML so I use a template.  My webhosters upgraded my service but my template was lost and I can't find it anywhere.   So excuse the grossness of my site, I am looking for a new template when I have some time to play with it.
