Old Navy

Everyone who owns my book, please go to the section listing Old Navy and cross out the A they got and give them a D.  I have heard from the fashion grapevine that Old Navy will no longer be carrying Plus sizes in their stores.

This makes me pretty mad.  When the book was nearly finished, Old Navy announced they would be carrying plus sizes in their stores.  Small to begin with and then expanding. So my editor uped their grade from a C+ to an A.  I love Old Navy's stuff as I think of them as causal and cool. 

Then after the book came out I then learned Old Navy would only be carrying them in selected stores.  Now I find out they won't be carrying it at all giving the reason they weren't selling. 

Hey Marketing morons get a clue, first fat chicks need to KNOW you are selling plus sizes, then you actually need to have them AVAILABLE.

I won't be buying from Old Navy anymore.   And guess what it isn't just accessories I won't be buying, I actually can wear some of Old Navy's stuff.   You might carry my size but not my bigger sisters.

OMG, diets don't work? I didn't know.

What a surprise.  Dieting usually fails in the long run, study finds.   This is something every ex-dieter knows, dieting is pure BS that only makes you fatter.   I will eventually get a copy of the study so I will post what it really said, instead of  this badly written and researched piece of crap.

Aside from the study,  there are many things in the article disgust me, namely the blanket statement: Specialists generally agree that surgery is the only proven method to keep weight off.  What specialists?  What studies are they citing from? 

Speaking of junk, this is a great blog called junkfood science  which posts information about fat, health and  food you won't find in mainstream media.

Wow, the column at Well Mannered Traveler is the kind and thoughtful about traveling with a fattie.  They give a lot of the same advice I give in my book.  I don't really like the picture.  While we fat folks are proud of our beautiful bellies, we aren't defined by them.

For those of you in the New York/New Jersey Metro area, come to the My Big Fat Queer Prom.  Alas I won't make it, due to big fat funding shortages, but I encourage everyone gay, bi, fat and allies to go.

So have these scientists been living in a cave?  Yes, fat is genetic.  There is a reason that some people gain weight by looking at food and some people lose weight by skipping lunch.  I don't have much use for the rest of the article as it is filled with inadequacies and fat hatred.

Remember when fat babies meant wealth and strength?Well,  Do fat babies grow into fat adults? Well do they?   Come on, get that infant on the treadmill and straight to weight watchers.   Babies eat when they are hungry, stop when they are full and get exercise by trying to move.  I don't see a reason to introduce eating disorders so early in life.

I'm pretty tired tonight so short post.

Back from the PCA conference.  While the three panels I attended (And spoke at one) was awesome, Boston was a nightmare.   I won't even get into it in detail,  but I'm not that happy with the Doubletree suites in Boston, Boston traffic, and the organizers of PCA.   I will remain a member as long as they have a fat studies component.

The weekend was worth it when we had a speaker's dinner on Friday evening.  There was a lot of energy in a room and it was very empowering. 

I have an important plug, namely the Fat Studies list which is moderated by Marilyn Wann.  It is a great place of discussion for scholars, activists, & academics .

Rant time

We are going off on Subway in one of my size acceptance groups.  I'm sick of their commercials.  I was able deal with the lies about weight loss but now they are moving into fat hatred.

I for one like a godanka donk butt and beautiful large child bearing hips.  I think that if you are a videogame character and you are running around like a madman from ghosts who want to kill you, you can very well have an ice cream sundae as a reward.   (For those who have not seen or heard the commercials, the first one involves a couple at a drive-thru ordering fat body parts instead of food, the other involves a child playing a pac-man like game where he gets fat in the game from eating too much junk food and is then too fat at the end to get his "reward".)

Subway is far from "diet food" (or even healthy food).   While it might have some  "healthier" items on the menu, (for the record, so does McDonald's since they offer apples and salads), they offer subs in two sizes (big and twice as big), doublemeat, the addition of chips and a soda to the meal, and now their new thing is Piled High Pastrami.  In any sane world, the majority of the food they offer would fall into the "unhealthy" category.  And their spokesperson the suprathin ubermensch "Jared" is starting to get a little, shall I say it, wide around the middle again.

And every Subway I've been has always had an unusual smell.

In the end there are only two important things to note: diets still don't work, whether you eat  at Subway or not (I for one will no longer be eating there) and Subway is a business trying to market the health angle in order to make profit.  That is all the care about it.  They don't care about anyone getting fat or thin as long as you keep buying their food.

If for some reason someone from Subway happens to see this, stop making fun of fat people and I'll stop making fun of you.
