Slim Chance and a rant.

It is that time again!  The Slim Chance Awards.  The Healthy Weight Journal annually picks  the worst diet.  Some of this year's winners:  Ear staples and ChitoGenics

My favorite is this one that takes advantage of kids.
"Worst Product : PediaLean . Advertised in tabloids and magazines including the Enquirer and Redbook, PediaLean is a fiber capsule claimed to cause substantial weight loss in overweight children. Allegedly it is “clinically proven safe and effective for use by overweight children and adolescents,” but experts say the Italian study offered provides no valid scientific proof, is poorly-designed, had a high dropout rate, and revealed abdominal discomfort in many of the children tested. Its active ingredient glucomannan is known to swell in the body and can clump and form an obstructive mass, sometimes causing esophageal and gastrointestinal obstruction. PediaLean is one of six weight loss products for which the FTC, as of May 2006, is requiring payment of $3 million to settle deceptive claim violations. "

This goes well for the world's stupidest suggestion from Jolly Ole England.  Warning Labels On Plus-Sized Clothing? Maybe  Because I had absolutely no idea I was fat and I've never heard the any of the so called "health warnings" about being Fat.  Never.  Since we heard the lies all before why not make up some new ones.  Fat caused 9-11!  Fat caused Katrina!  Fat caused the civil war in Iraq!  Fat caused the strife in African Countries!! Fat caused your favorite TV show to be canceled!    Fat is taking over!  We're everywhere! And you can't stop us!  BWAHAHAHA Knell before Fat!

Now that's a label.  Wish we really had that much power.

Now away from comedy and on to something more serious.  I am really tired on the obesity hysteria naysayers picking on children.  I am especially concerned about this push for ELECTIVE SURGERY such as gastric bypass, lapband surgery being performed on teenagers   I think the doctor who did  this  should have his license revoked.   I heard a story on NPR this morning which had a teen getting lapband surgery not for “health” reasons but because of her appearance.  She’ll have a surgery with serious side effects and will have to see a doctor every month for five years.  All because we live in a society that won’t accept her as is.   I'm so tired as kids being victims in the war for beauty.

More HAES

There have been a lot of pro-Health at Everything Size articles lately.  I'm glad to see people are seeing the light that diets don't work and dieting industry wants your money.  The best thing to do is eat as best as you can, move and don't worry about the weight. If it wants to go, it will go, if it wants to stay it can stay.  That's pretty much all the "dieting" advice you need and you don't have to pay me anything for that advice.  Obese women can get healthier without diets
