Before I post my insights about NAAFA con, I'd like to ask if anyone knows a Penny that went to the NAAFA con. I don't know her last name, but when I went through my books I saw a book I autographed. Apparently she left it on my table. If anyone thinks she knows her, tell her to e-mail me and I'll mail the book to her.
I wished I could have stayed for the whole thing but for financial reasons only stayed from Friday to Sunday.
I headed off the NAAFA con to vend my book and catch up with friends. This time around I made it a girl's weekend. Bringing my girlfriend Lulu and her daughter Abbie. We left at 7:30am and were hungry for pancakes. No pancakes could be found! And while searching for the legendary I-Hop. We ended up at Chowder Town in Vernon, CT. I'm not partial for seafood but they make the best chowder!
Finally got to the NAAFA con, a whole two hours late :-( I ran downstairs to give my donated book to the auction, grabbed some chow then headed back upstairs. Got Abbie to work and by the end of the day I think more people knew her then me. I saw lots of people I wished I could see more than once a year.
I didn't go to the party that night. I went out to eat in a restaurant in Needham, then went swimming, then vegged for the rest of the evening.
On Saturday we had way to expensive room service, then we sent Abbie to work. Total books for the weekend: 25. I meet a lot of cool people.
I did a workshop on Saturday about Fat and the Media. Despite that we were up against Fat Sex we got a good crowd and not only talked about TV and movies but fat in the news and how false stats get out.
On Saturday night went to the dinner where I saw next to NAAFA board member Phyllis Warr. Who if you don't know where is one of the coolest, sweetest person there is. I pretty much stayed only for dinner, I'm not much of a dancer.
So Sunday I said my goodbyes. And the crew and I headed to Boston.
Wished it was longer. I'm hoping to go next year. I've never been to Chicago and Abbie is really psyched about it. Guess I'll see when the time comes.
