Fast food nation?
I got a movie from Netflix with this title and I couldn't believe the sleeve which mentioned the correlation "between fast food and Obesity". I expected a movie about how AMERICA WAS SO FAT FROM FAST FOOD!! Although the movie wasn't so great, there was no mention of obesity anywhere. This same thing happened when I watched the movie King Corn. You mean you can actually make a movie about food and not mention the o word for a change? You mean maybe fat people aren't fat because all they do is eat Big Macs and corn. (I'm one fat person who doesn't either, so figure me out).
Or perhaps fat isn't the cause of diabetes or heart disease or perhaps out of the plastic we've been using?
The point here is we really can't assume. Obesity can no longer be a scapegoat for society ills. Fat and thin people eat crap, have diabetes and heart disease.
I read the book Fast Food Nation (a while ago) and while I believe the author did mention obesity, his focus was much more so on the unethical business practices of the industries that feed the fast food market. I thought the movie version was pretty good; I especially liked the fact that they showed some of the real horrors facing both animals and workers in the slaughterhouses. I heard they filmed it at a real plant in Mexico.

I'm about 80 pounds overweight. Every 6 months I go see my doctor, who always does tons of lab work and always seems unhappy when the results come back normal. "Bev, you're the healthiest overweight person I've ever met," he once told me. I don't eat a lot of fast food or junk food but I love to cook and love good food, I enjoy my life and am a terrific person. It pisses me off that overweight people are not valued for what they are inside and that so many people judge us by how we look and don't even try to get to know us because of our weight. I love your blog and look forward to visiting again. Blessings to you!
