Doublespeak
About half of fat people are heart healthy according to a new study. The experts are still toting to watch your weight. This despite that half of thin people have heart problems as well. What a concept! You mean fat people and thin people equally have heart disease? You don't say!
Despite evidence that fat is not the bogeyman, the Japanese have gone out of their minds with a draconian law towards fat people. If you are bigger than 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women (and older than 40), you too can have "Re-Education" if they can't lose weight. I guess Sumo wrestlers should be slimmed down? I was thinking about visiting Japan in 2009 but I'm not sure as long as the Ministry of Love... err... I mean Health is doing this to their citizens. And hello it is NORMAL to put on weight in later years. This law is not only anti-fat but anti-elderly.
Marilyn Wann seeks to protest this inane law by sending 1000 fat cranes to Japan. For more info go here.
Where are you getting the "half of thin people have heart problems" statistic? That article you linked to says "Yet about a fourth of adults in the recommended-weight range had unhealthy levels of at least two of these measures." One fourth is not the same as one half. Overweight people were twice as likely to have unhealthy measures as normal weight people, and obese people were three times as likely.

Oh wait, did you take it from this sentence: "while an equally startling number of trim people suffer from some of the ills associated with obesity"? That does not mean an equal number of people (and even if it did, that doesn't mean an equal percentage), it means equally STARTLING. As in, people were just as surprised that some thin people could be unhealthy as they were that some overweight people could be healthy. It does not mean the actual numbers were the same, which would be clear if you'd read the entire article.

The study revealed that:
About 30% of obese people…
About 50% of overweight people…
About 75% of normal weight people…
…have normal BP and cholesterol levels. That's still considerably high correlation.

I hope it's ok if I post an open call for submissions... I feel as though your blog might have similar readers.
www.fatchicklove.com
We are looking for true, well-written, provocative, offensive, gritty, funny stories about the life of a modern fat chick. We are open to stories from skinny girls with fat chick mentalities or men who love fat chicks or hell, just about anything else related to the theme. Hints: Shorter is better, but we will consider longer submissions also and please NO sentimental, sweet, sappy pieces. We’re looking for pieces that push the edges of propriety – pieces that rough the writer and hopefully the reader up a little. Please send all queries and submissions to fatchicklove@yahoo.com.
