Sorry for the late Post

I wasn't feeling well yesterday (and today), so I missed posting yesterday and short post today.

But here is some news for the week

Good news for the week!

I like to rant a lot about people, places and things that discriminate against fat people.  Now I would like the mention some fat people  who are making a different.

For those in the New York Metro area, this is a great store in Brooklyn that caters to me:  Lee Lee Valise.  I was fortunate to speak to the owner Lisa on the phone.  She was looking into doing something different than the other boutiques (Most of which have a sign on their doors that say "No Fatties")   She'll be hosting fashion week events at her store this week including plus size designers such as Darren Trentacosta, Tadashi, Anna Scholz and Jessica Svoboda.

Bigger and Better Things is having a plus size fashion show in Friday Night, in NYC

And a nice forum XXL travel  to go with it.

Wall hitting time!

Healthy workers cash in
While I'm all for healthy incentives, such as paid gym memberships, alt. medicine, smoking cessession, etc.   The problem comes in when your health is judged in order to get or keep a job. Being fat becomes legal discrimination whether you are healthy or not. To me these wellness programs scapegoat fat people for raising healthcare costs. Except it isn't fat people, it's the million dollar industry who picks the bottom line over people's health.

I already mentioned in a previous post on July 30, 2007: How about this?  Instead of focusing on how much a worker weighs, how about we do things like have job security, adequate vacation, maternity, sick leave, pension plans, 401ks, day care, health plans including full vision and dental, flexible times, programs to reduce burn out and competitive salaries.  I bet you that any job that has this will have happy healthy workers regardless of what they weigh.

This really upset me: Teen Gets Stomach Band After Lipo
Instead of taking fat kids away from their parents, this girl needs to be taken away from her parents. This is child abuse, plain and simple. What parents allow their children to get elective surgery, especially two surgeries that have been linked to death?

Halloween

Very short post today as I've been running around all day and am exhausted.  Took my niece to the Halloween Store in Union Square.  Last year there were almost no plus size costumes available (except 0ne or two goth outfits).  This year was only slightly better.  They were a few (compared to 100's in the store) or costumes that were 2x.   I don't know if the store was the problem or the costume makers. I thinking a little of both since they DO make plus size Halloween costumes.  However many of the brands they carried only go up to XL.

Do fat people not celebrate Halloween is that what they are thinking?  (I'm one person who does!)  If you are a size 14 or smaller you can walk into a costume store and get almost any costume in your imagination but if you are fat, you can't.

I'm really tired of it.
